It isn’t the burden of today that drives men mad. It is the regrets over yesterday and the fear of tomorrow. Regret and fear are twin thieves who rob us of today. Matthew Kelly “The Rhythm of Life”
To be honest, I’ve never read Kelly’s book. I ran across the quote somewhere and it struck a cord with me. I think the statement is true. We spend a lot of time lamenting regrets and worrying about tomorrow. In the process, we neglect today. Almost every day since our kids were old enough to listen, Ruth offered up the phrase, “We all have choices. You can determine what happens next in your life by the choices you make.”
We make choices every day. Some are small while others are monumental. The thing is, they’re ours. We have choice because of where we live. Those of us who live in the United States have opportunities like no other country I know.
One of the choices I believe we should consider is ignoring most of what we hear through the news and social media. If I chose to believe everything that is reported, written, or posted, I’d just hide in the basement because there is just too much for one man to overcome. The Lone Ranger and Tonto may have been able to save the old west, but this lone ranger knows he doesn’t have a silver bullet, so I choose my sources carefully.
The current political climate is as contentious as I ever remember. I’m tired of hearing how bad the other guy is. What I wish to know is what have you done, and what more do you plan to do? Having that information will help me make my choice so I can focus on today.
