BZ Tebo, AKA Elizabeth Tebo, signed several copies of her book, “The Elephant on Aaron’s Chest”, during her book debut yesterday.  It was well attended.  Her mom and I are extremely proud of her accomplishment.  Witnessing her book signing reminded me of the time I took my grandson, Brady, to meet the former major league pitcher, Tony Brizzolara.

I met Tony through a mutual friend, Jerry, in The Villages.  The three of us were part of a poker group.  Through conversations at the table, I learned he was a former pitcher with the Atlanta Braves.  Brady, an avid baseball fan and aspiring young pitcher, was coming for a visit.  I asked Tony if it would be alright if I brought him over to get an autograph.  He agreed and a few days later we made the connection.

Tony was great with Brady.  They went outside to play catch and Tony helped him a bit with some pitching tips.  When it came time to sign the baseball, Tony offered up a bit of advice.

“Brady, when you make it big, don’t make your autograph too precise. When Topps had me write my autograph for my first baseball card, I had to sign my name ten times.  They chose the one they liked, and I was expected to sign my name that way throughout my career.  Tony Brizzolara takes up a lot of space, and the one Topps chose took a long time to duplicate.  I shouldn’t have been so deliberate.  Brady Tebo is shorter, so don’t make it too fancy.”

While Brady hasn’t made the big time yet, his Aunt BZ has been signing her books for several days now.  Luckily, she opted for the penname BZ Tebo rather than the more formal Elizabeth Kathryn Tebo.  Her signing, although very demanding, is going by quickly.

See for yourself.
