This Father’s Day

Yes, I know we just celebrated Mother’s Day.  I truly hope every mother enjoyed their special day.  Heaven knows they deserve all their accolades.  It’s a difficult task.  Once a mother, always a mother.  The same holds true for fathers.  That’s why I already know what I’m buying David for Father’s Day.  A baseball bat.

Brady’s junior prom was last Saturday, the day before Mother’s Day.  Most of the kids just go these days.  Some have dates, but many don’t.  They often travel in packs. He went to his first prom as a freshman, outdoing his grandfather by two years.  Back in my day, a date was almost required.  I don’t recall anyone going single.  When my sister, Sharron, didn’t have a date for her prom, I came home from college and took her.  Tom, one of our next door neighbors, took his sister, Ann, too.  Couples went to proms.  I think the current, more progressive, thinking works well for everyone.  Date, or no date, having a good time is goal number one.

In any case, Brady’s sister, Eva, will be a high school freshman in the fall.  If this pretty freshman heads off to the prom next Spring, date or no date, David’s going to need the baseball bat because she’s going to be even more beautiful than she is today.  She can’t help it.  It’s in her genes.

I’m not advocating violence, but a father must let his daughter’s suitors know where he stands.  Being proactive is a must.  Since all fathers used to be young suitors, they know how they think.  Being prepared is just a wise move.

If she looks this good in holey genes, just imagine how beautiful she’ll be in a prom dress.  I suggest something with a turtleneck top with a long skirt that just brushes the top of her sneakers.
