A Christmas Past

I looked up the origin of British toy soldiers the other day.  I had some pictures to share from a Christmas past and wanted to know more about them.  This is what I found.

Vintage British toy soldiers are highly sought after because of:

• their craftsmanship
• limited production runs
• historical accuracy
• the nostalgia they evoke

Michael was about a year and a half old when he told us that he wanted a toy soldier for Christmas.  That would have made BZ three months short of four years and David working on six.

All he spoke about that year was toy soldiers and that declaration was made every day. Ruth and I looked high and low.  There was no Amazon back then or any form of online shopping.  Heck there was no public internet.  If the internet existed at all the public wasn’t aware so clicking photos on a screen wasn’t an option because there were no smart phones or personal computers.  We looked through piles of catalogs and visited countless department stores.  We found nothing.  Sip Nada Zero

The only thing we located, and Ruth found this in the kitchen department at Hudson’s, was a wooden nutcracker in the form of a toy soldier, so that’s what he got.

I ran across these photos when I went to Michigan last month for Thanksgiving and I’m sharing them with you on this Christmas Eve.  They were taken in 1980 a mere forty-five years ago.

Merry Christmas!!!
